- Jerry West was called
- ΓÇ£Mr. Clutch" because late
- in a game, when one
- basket would decide the
- outcome, Jerry would
- often sink that last shot. He averaged 27
- points per game over his 14-year NBA career,
- and led the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA
- Finals nine times.
-
- Jerry had been a clutch player at East Bank
- Consolidated High School, in West Virgina,
- too. He led the East Bank team to the state
- basketball title in 1956.
-
- As a student at West Virginia University,
- Jerry was a college All-America twice. He
- was a member of the gold medal-
- winning team at the 1960 Olympics.
